Short Introduction:
The Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) is an astronomical survey at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile, scheduled to begin before the end of 2025. Over ten years, LSST will scan the sky and detect anything that has changed or moved, producing a “movie” of the cosmos.
LSST will provide researchers with one of the largest astronomical datasets ever created, discovering ten times more asteroids than are currently known. These new discoveries will offer unprecedented information about the locations and compositions of asteroids, helping us refine our understanding of the formation and evolution of Earth and the Solar System. In addition, LSST is expected to uncover several unique and remarkable objects, including potential Earth-impacting asteroids and interstellar visitors.
